BRITISH AIRCRAFT . . . BUILT BY WESTLAND
THE HEIGHT OF ACHIEVEMENT

On January 25th the Houston. Westland biplane (Bristol Pegasus engine), piloted by Mr. H. J. Penrose, carrying Air Commodore P. F. M. Fellowes as passenger and its full load of 4,870 lbs. ,reached a height of 35,000 feet in 74 minutes, 1,000 feet higher than the stipulated service ceiling. The Houston-Westland biplane was chosen for the Houston-Mount Everest Expedition by the Technical Committee after a survey of all existing types available. It was originally built by the Westland Works to an Air Ministry specification and modified by the Westland Company for the special purposes of the Expedition. The Committee have shown their confidence in Westland products by selecting a Westland machine, also with a Bristol Pegasus engine.

This machine has likewise successfully accomplished its altitude test. The Stationary and Marine Oil Engines, also manufactured by Petters Ltd., for use on land and sea have raised the reputation of the Company to comparable heights all the world over. They are chosen for superiority by discriminating engineers and oil engine users, and hundreds of thousands of horse-power are in constant use. They are made in a large range of sizes from 1.5 to 400 B.H.P.

Dunlop wheels and tyres are standard on all Westland Aircraft
