THE LARGEST HEAT SHROUD IN THE WORLD!
is now being made by Delaney Gallay LTD for the Vickers Vanguard.
Its function is to protect the fuel contained in the wing structure from the
heat ofthe jetpipe. Construction consists of a layer of special insulant which
neither breaks down under vibration nor fuses at elevated temperatures, sandwich
between two outer sheets of ·004" gauge stainless steel. The steel is dimpled
for extra strength and the whole blanket completely sealed against the ingress
of fuel, the circumferential wedges being welded channel construction.
The thickest metal used in any part is only '015" gauge.

Delaney Gallay have also designed and are manufacturing the anti-icing system
for the Vanguard. It incorporates the stainless steel heat exchanger shown here,
which because of the fine gauge metal used, weighs no more than an equivalent
exchanger made of light alloy.
