| Opened in 1937 as a training base it wasn't until 1950 when the USAAF needed an airbases for their nuclear bombers that they heavily expanded Brize. In 1952 B-36 Peacemakers were stationed here until 1953 followed by B-47`s, B-58`s and B-52`s. Returned to the RAF in 1965 it is now home to RAF`s transport and tanker fleet and this will be fully acheived when RAF Lyneham closes in 2012 and its fleet moves to Brize. | ||
