Opened as an airfield in the 1930`s the RAF took control in 1940 as a Coastal Command airbase and ops were flown from here during the war. When the war was over the airfield was used for training purposes and particularly weapons training. All flying training ceased in 1994 and moved to RAF Valley. A SAR flight from 22 Sqn is still based here as well as a Cadet gliding school.
