| Opened in 1937 it was one of many airfields operating RAF fighters to protect the N.E. of the country and remained in this role well into the 1950`s and 60`s. In later years its role changed to that of training and it was used from 1998 to 2003 as the main Elementary Flying Training School. The base is still home to the Yorkshire University Air Squadron but much of the base it lies derelict and fenced off. | ||
