Opened as a bombing range in 1927 it later functioned as a decoy airfield for RAF North Coates. Later it was used by Coastal Command as a real airfield and 206 Sqn was based there for a year. Closed in 1945 it was soon reopened as a bombing range again a role which continues to the present day.
