RAF Stations Index 

Built and opened by 1939 the airfield was used by bomber command as a training base and some bomber ops including the sinking of the Tirpitz in 1944. At the end of the war it was transferred to the Navy as a training base and known as RNAS Fulmar. On the 28th September 1972 it once again became an RAF station with a Jaguar training unit arriving by 1973. Various aircraft types have used the base and it is now home to the Tornados of 12, 14, 15 and 617 Sqn`s.
