RAF Stations Index

Opened as a flying training base in 1917 for the RFC it was closed and abandoned by 1920. With war again on the horizon the base was reopened and used as a training base for the RAF for the rest of the war. After the war it was used as a navigator and ATC training facility. In 1976 helicopters arrived at the airfield and it continues to be a helicopter training base today enjoying occasional visits from fixed wing aircraft.
