Opened in 1933 as a civilian airfield it was transferred to the RAF at the outbreak of the Second World War. Named RAF Trebelzue and used as a satellite airfield it was renamed St Mawgan in February 1943. The USAAF took over the airfield in 1943 and carried out a number of improvements to the facility. it was handed back to the RAF after the war and put into care and maintenance on the 1st July 1947. Reopened in 1951 it went into the hands of Coastal Command and carried on this role of maritime reconnaissance until the early 1990`s. All fying activities ceased by 2006 although the base is sometimes still used for excercises.
