Opened on the 16th September 1941 the small landing strip here was extended and used by Fighter Command. In 1943 it was transferred to Coastal Command and used until the end of the war. It was closed in 1946. The airfield is now part of the bombing range used by the RAF, and reported to be the only location in Europe where live 1000 lb bombs may be dropped!
