RAF Stations Index 

Opened in September 1940 as a bomber station three concrete runways were added in 1943. Rescheduled as a training base shortly after, it continued in this role until 1972 when the Army moved on to the site. The airfield was kept in good order and still used for some air movements. In the 1980`s it was also home to the RAF/Royal Navy flying training unit with Tucano`s. These left in April 2002 and it is now home to an Air Cadet gliding school.
