RAF Stations Index 

Opened on the 7th December 1941 as an all weather night fighter station it operated a number of various fighter Sqns through out the war in defence of the Liverpool area. In 1946 it operated as a fighter station with the Royal Auxiliary Air Force and continued in this role until 1951. Meteors of 5 CAACU continued to use the airfield until 1971 and it is now home to an air cadet air experience flying sqn (10 AEF) and university air sqn.
