RAF Stations Index 

Opened in 1916 by the RFC as a training airfield but updated and expanded by 1935 for bomber ops. In 1942 it became the home of the Pathfinder Force. After the war it became the home of the Strategic Reconnaissance Force for the RAF flying Canberra`s and Valiants. By the mid 1990`s the airfield had lost its flying squadrons and is maintained at readiness. A university air sqn and air cadet flying experience sqn are still based here.
