| Opened during 1942 it was quickly turned over to the 8th air force with medium bombers moving in. By November these aircraft had moved on to be replaced by heavy bomber units and ops continued up until the end on the war. By August 1945 the airfield was handed over to the Fleet Air Arm and named HMS Europa, however this only lasted until 1946 when it was returned to RAF control. The RAF had left by 1955 and Bungay was sold off by 1962. | ||
