| Opened in 1941 as a gunnery school and glider experiment establishment. Turned over to the USAAF in 1942 heavy bomber units flew from here until wars end. In 1945 the RAF kept it as a maintenance unit until 1952 when the USAAF rebuilt the airfield with a single long runway to be used as a stand by airfield for SAC bombers.It was still operational around the mid 1960`s but closed shortly after. | ||
