| Opened in 1943 as a heavy bomber base for the USAAF it continued in this role until the end of the war. It was returned to the RAF and used by the Royal Observer Corps as a lookout post and also a recruiting centre. Finally sold off in 1963 part of the old runway is used as a private airstrip. | ||
