| Opened as a bomber airfield for the RAF in August 1942 it was quickly transferred to the USAAF in May 1943. US heavy and medium bombers used the base until September 1944 when it was transferred back to the RAF. When in 1946 the last RAF flying units moved out the base went into care and was then sold off in 1955. A small landing field still exists however much of the site is now a golf course. | ||
