Fowlmere |
|
| Fowlmere dates back to 1918 and was used by the RAF and the then US Army Air Service for the remainder of World War 1. After that conflict the airfield was abandoned and demolished by 1923. With the outbreak of World War 2 it was reopened again as a satelllite to nearby Duxford and was in use by the RAF until March 1943 when the USAAF again returned to their old flying ground. 1945 saw the airfield transferred back to the RAF and it was used for a short while by Fighter Command until 1946 when it was placed into care. It was sold off in 1957. | ||
