| Built in 1942 as a heavy bomber airfield the first unit to arrive in July 1943 was the 56th Fighter Group of the USAAF. Fighter ops continued until 1944 when the 56th left to be replaced by a bomber group. In January 1945 the bomber group also left to be replaced by the 5th Emergency Rescue Sqn. Halesworth was closed to flying from February 1946 and used for food storage until sold off in 1963. | ||
