USAF Home 

Construction started in 1935 and Honington was opened on the 3rd May 1937 for RAF Bomber Command. 9 Squadron flew the very first bombing mission of the war from here on the 4th September 1939. Attacked by the Luftwaffe at least seven times from 1939 to 1941 a number of fatalities were recorded. Transferred to the USAAF in June 1942 it was used as a fighter base and bomber repair depot for the rest of the war. When the USAAF departed in 1946 the RAF used Honington for Transport Command until 1949 when it was then transferred to Bomber Command. V-bombers flew from here from 1956 and was a operational flying base until 1994 when the last aircraft left. It now home to 1 Squadron RAF Regiment.
