Developed in 1939 and officially opened in June 1940 the RAF used it as a bomber airfield at the start of the war. From late 1939 fighter squadrons moved in and ops continued until August 1941 when bombers aircraft then took up residence. Transferred to the USAAF in 1942 various units used the airfield including medium and heavy bomber groups and even fighter squadrons. Horsham was transferred back to the RAF in July 1945 and used as a fighter station up until August 1963 when flying ceased. Sold off in 1967 it has been developed into Norwich International Airport.
