| Intended as a RAF fighter base it was completed by September 1943 and handed to the USAAF. In November 1943 the first fighter units arrived and it continued in this role until the end of the war. Handed back to the RAF on the 10th October 1945 it became a RAF recruitment centre and was finally closed in 1955 and sold off. | ||
