Martlesham Heath |

| Used during World War One by the RFC Martlesham Heath became associated with experimental aircraft from 1917 to 1939 when this was moved to Boscombe Down. Operated as a fighter base it was here that Douglas Bader served with 242 Squadron RAF. In 1943 the USAAF took over and fighter groups moved in. At the end of the war it was transferred back to the RAF with various fighter squadrons and other units based here. Put into care and maintenance by 1960 it was closed and sold off by the end of 1963. | ||
