| Built in 1943 for the USAAF it was used by the US 353rd fighter group until 1944 then used by the 491st bomber group for the rest of the war. On the 15th July 1944 the bomb dump here exploded and 5 men were killed. The reason is not known. Handed to the RAF the site was abandoned but stayed in the hands of the MOD until 1965 when it was sold off. | ||
