Thorpe Abbotts |
|
| Construction started in 1942 and was intended for RAF use. However by 1943 it was transferred to the USAAF and the first heavy bomber units arrived in June 1943. One of these units was the 100th bomber group later to be known as the `Bloody Hundredth` and ops continued until the end of the war. Handed back the the RAF on the 27th June 1946 it was never used for active flying and was closed in 1956. A small airstrip is still in use today on the old site. | ||
