Wendling |
|
| Planned as an RAF bomber command airfield it was built and transferred to the USAAF in 1942. Opened in 1943 the first heavy bomber units moved in and continued ops until the end of the war. Handed back to the RAF in 1945 it was used as a satellite airfield until made inactive in 1961. From June 1960 the USAF returned and used Wendling as a radio facility before moving out in 1964 when the airfield was closed for good and sold off. It is now used as a turkey farm. | ||
