2. Where the crossword is scheduled (monthly or weekly) and sponsored by a partner organisation perhaps you can easily and inexpensively create a structured marketing feature  and share resources.

How we work:

Before ordering or contacting Content-Delivery it may be helpful to first consider whether your crossword is to be a "One Off" maybe to help promote an event or products launch for example or a regular feature of your newsletter or magazine.

Depending on the frequency of publication or updates you may need to create a series of puzzles in advance to give the Printers, Publishers or Web developers enough time to incorporate the copy. Where a crossword is planned as a regular feature we recommend in the first instance you commission enough puzzles to cover 3 issues of your newsletter or magazine. This approach will allow to to gauge user feedback and allow time to make changes to style or tone if necessary.

Testing.

Another reason to plan puzzles in advance is to ensure a "Good Puzzle." We take great care to ensure the accuracy, validity and relevance of the clues but your puzzles should be tested in advance by at least a couple of colleagues or representatives of the sponsors or client base to ensure quality, accuracy and fitness for purpose.
Style

Readers and viewers like the "tone or style" of their crosswords to be consistent. You may have an idea how the clues should be structured but avoid changing styles or difficulty unless you have strong user feedback requesting a more or less challenging puzzle.
Research

Where a crossword is themed we would liaise with you about clue/solution emphasis and marketing messages if applicable. We will then research and create a word and phrase database based on your requirements. Once this is done we can make a start on the clues. We would submit some representative sample clues early on in the process for you to assess.
Costs

Costs. Not as much as you might think! Every project is different so costs will vary. However a series of 12 puzzles based on a not too obscure theme typically might take around three or four days to research, prepare and compile. Our rates are £120-00 per day for original puzzles. (NB These will be exclusive to you and we will not make these available elsewhere) Simple General Knowledge or 'Pool Puzzles' for print output start at around £30-00 for a 15x15 grid.
Ouptut.

Web based Java Applets and RTF packages are the most frequently requested output formats. However we can output to many other formats as required. In most cases we can also assist Webmasters to upload and integrate Web Based versions of their crosswords.

Prize Sponsors

Sponsors & Third Party Publishers may have copy size preferences or ideas about how difficult the puzzle should be. For example a Crossword with a significant prize may need to be quite challenging, whereas if the prize is designed to be awarded to all successful returns as a marketing initiative the puzzle should not be made too difficult.
